Shrimp Tacos with the Ultimate Shrimp Taco Sauce

Ingredients
For the shrimp tacos
- 1 lb large shrimp pilled and deveined
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded red cabbage
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
For the Best Shrimp Taco Sauce
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 tsp sriracha or hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preparing the Shrimp
- In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp, olive oil, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Toss until the shrimp are well coated with the spices.
- Heat a large skillet pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for about 2–3 minutes on each side, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque. Remove from heat and set aside.
Making the Best Shrimp Taco Sauce
- In a small bowl, mix together the sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, chopped cilantro, sriracha, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and well combined. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
Assembling the Tacos
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or until they are soft and pliable.
- Place a generous spoonful of shredded cabbage on each tortilla.
- Top with 3–4 shrimp, slices of avocado, and a drizzle of the shrimp taco sauce. Garnish with chopped cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
